A fire that saw the A2 motorway closed in both directions yesterday burnt roughly 175 hectares of pine and eucalyptus forests in the municipalities of Almodôvar and Ourique, and destroyed 20 beehives, before being brought under control. The fire began after a motorhome caught fire on the motorway. One firefighter had to be treated in hospital due to being struck on the back by a discharge of water from a firefighting plane, which fractured two of her ribs.
