Após seu esforço no Perugia Challenger, o indiano Sumit Nagal melhorará sua classificação de melhor carreira, 77, e será elevado ao 71º lugar.

Despite losing the final of the Perugia Challenger of Sunday, India’s singles tennis ace Sumit Nagal will reach a career-high ranking of World No. 71 soon. The 26-year-old lost to Italy’s Luciano Darderi in the summit clash, but that was enough to elevate him six spots from his current 77th spot in ATP rankings.

Sumit Nagal Loses Perugia Challenger Final

Sumit was no match to his Italian opponent Darderi, and lost 1-6, 2-6 in little over and hour, and struggled to find his rhythm. But he was excellent in the tournament where he also managed to record a win over the former World No. 37, Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles, 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 6-2. This was his third final appearance in the year, and had went on to win the Chennai Challenger as well. To add to that, he had reached the second round of the Australian Open as well after beating Alexander Bublik.

Massive Rise in Sumit Nagal’s ATP Rankings

Ranked over 500 in 2023, Sumit Nagal made a rapid rise in the rankings, and at the start of the year became only the 10th singles Indian player to enter the top 100 ever. The story doesn’t end there now, as with his World No. 71 now, he will attain the 4th highest ATP ranking attained by an India player. Veteran Vijay Amritraj tops the list with his 18th spot, followed by Ramesh Krishnan’s 23rd, and Somdev Devvarman’s 62nd. In women’s singles, Sania Mirza had reached World No. 27 in 2007.
