The Indian Women on Saturday scripted history when they made the highest ever total in Women’s Test cricket on Day 2 of the one-off Test vs South Africa. Starting the day at 525/4, India added 78 more runs to declare with four wickets in hand. South Africa, who were down and out in the first one and a half days, restored some balance in the match by putting up a strong batting performance themselves. They are at 605/6 after the end of play.
Starting the day, skipper Harmanpreet Singh and Richa Ghosh both completed their half-centuries within a short span of time. Richa and Harmanpreet carried the good work of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma from the first day forward. Harmanpreet played a more patient knock and got out on 69 runs. Richa, on the other hand, scored runs at a brisk pace to help India pile more misery on the Proteas bowlers.

When Richa got out trying to sweep Nonkululeko Mlaba for a boundary, India had already surpassed the highest score in women’s cricket. India decided to declare as soon as Richa was out.
Chasing a huge score, South Africa started in a cautious manner. Although they lost the first wicket of skipper Laura Wolvaardt with just 33 runs on the board, Sune Luus added a 66-run partnership with Anneke Bosch before Bosch departed at an individual score of 39.
Luus completed her half-century and added an unbeaten 93 runs with Marizanne Kapp for the second wicket. Deepti Sharma got rid of Luus by trapping her in front of the wicket with 65 runs. At the end of day’s play, The Proteas women are 236/4.
