“All three white ticked off, one red to go,” Dravid seemed to remark, suggesting Kohli, who was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy victories, has now completed his collection of major ICC trophies in white-ball cricket with the T20 World Cup win. This exchange between Dravid and Kohli, possibly Dravid’s final message to Kohli as head coach, reignites the fire for the ultimate prize in Test cricket.
WTC remains elusive from Kohli & India
However, one trophy remains elusive – the World Test Championship. Dravid’s comment lays bare Kohli’s burning desire to conquer the pinnacle of Test cricket. India, under Kohli’s captaincy, reached the finals of the World Test Championship in 2021 but fell short. Even in 2023, Australia thumped India in the WTC Final.
However, a sparkling line waits ahead. The Men in Blue are currently at the top of the WTC rankings and are more or less likely to play the 2025 Final as well. Virat, the indomitable red-ball batter, would be rearing to get past this hurdle and officially complete international cricket!
