22-year-old Indian shooter and Olympic bronze medallist Sarabjot Singh has rejected the government job offered to him after winning the medal at the Paris Olympics. The Haryana government had offered him the position of Deputy Director in the Sports Department, but Sarabjot turned down this job offer. He has chosen to prioritise his shooting career instead. “The job is good, but I will not take it right now. I want to focus on my shooting first,” Sarabjot said.
He acknowledged the pressure from his family to secure a stable job but emphasised his commitment to his sport. “My family has also been asking me to get a decent job, but I want to pursue shooting. I don’t want to go against the decisions that I have made, so I cannot take a job right now,” he added.
Performance at the Paris Olympics
Sarabjot’s decision came after the Paris Olympics, where he clinched the bronze medal along with Manu Bhaker in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Sarabjot failed to qualify in the men’s 10m air rifle pistol shooting, finishing in 9th place in the qualifications. If Sarabjot continues his good performance, we might see him in the LA Olympics 2028 as well.
The shooter returned to India during the Paris Olympics after the shooting events concluded. Along with receiving awards from the Ministry of Sports, Sarabjot received a grand welcome at his hometown of Dheen village in Ambala district, Haryana, where the young athlete was given a hero’s welcome.
Sarabjot Singh’s performance in the past
Not just at the Olympics, Sarabjot Singh has shown exceptional performance in the past. He won two gold medals in the ISSF World Cup in 2023, as well as a gold and a silver medal at the Asian Games. He has also secured multiple medals in the Asian Championships.
