Deadpool & Wolverine is coming to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it turns out that could mean both the future and the past of the franchise. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are back as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, with the two actors having the company of a wide array of stars in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s cast, with many more rumored to play supporting roles and cameos in the film. As the first movie for characters from Fox in the MCU, Deadpool & Wolverine is a major event.

Adding to that, the new Deadpool entry is the only 2024 MCU movie, which has not happened since 2010’s Iron Man 2. Thanks to its multiversal story, Deadpool & Wolverine should shake up the MCU in a few ways, and evidence suggests that could include revisiting past movies. The film’s trailers have featured the Void and elements from past MCU films, like Hulk’s bed from Thor: Ragnarok, with CinemaCon footage showing a repurposed Thor: The Dark World scene. Now, a new reveal claims Deadpool and Wolverine will revisit MCU movies, and some would be great for the duo.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Release Date, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know

Marvel Studios is making Deadpool 3 as part of the MCU. Here’s everything we know about the R-rated sequel starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson.

10 Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy

July 30, 2014

Cast
Zoe Saldana , Karen Gillan , Vin Diesel , Michael Rooker , Djimon Hounsou , Lee Pace , Benicio Del Toro , Glenn Close , Dave Bautista , Chris Pratt2 , Bradley Cooper , John C. Reilly

Runtime
122 Minutes

There are many exciting options for MCU movies that Deadpool and Wolverine could pop up in for different reasons. However, few MCU entries fit the brand of humor Reynolds’ Deadpool is known for as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Out of all three films for Marvel Studios’ premiere cosmic team, the original 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy stands as the most likely one to see Deadpool appear for a cameo, rewriting MCU history in a fun way.

Avengers: Endgame has already revisited Guardians of the Galaxy, and the moment shown in the film could also be the one Reynolds’ Deadpool would appear in. Chris Pratt’s dancing scene from the start of the film has become iconic, and the silly nature of the moment is perfect for a Deadpool appearance. The movie’s final dance battle could also see Deadpool appear to bust a move or two.

9 Spider-Man: No Way Home

Released In 2021

Spider-Man: No Way Home currently stands as the biggest event in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Deadpool & Wolverine hopes to continue what the movie did, bringing back characters from Fox’s X-Men franchise, like Jackman’s Wolverine, and more. With the new MCU movie possibly revisiting past entries in the franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home emerges as one of the most exciting possible films for Deadpool to appear in, as the character has a huge connection to Spider-Man in the comics.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has many exciting action set pieces that could add Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine. Perhaps a cameo from Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, a character he is always game to return to, could see the duo briefly fight the Spider-Man villain on the bridge after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was saved by Doctor Strange. A Deadpool interaction with one of the Spider-Men, albeit difficult, would be a dream come true.

Predicting Deadpool & Wolverine’s Post-Credits Scenes: 10 Most Exciting Theories

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has teased Deadpool & Wolverine’s mind-blowing post-credits scene, and there are exciting scenarios for the MCU film.

8 Captain America: Civil War

Released In 2016

Captain America: Civil War is one of the MCU’s biggest movies. Despite being a solo film for Chris Evans’ Captain America, the flick ended up acting as a kind of Avengers 2.5 between Age of Ultron and Infinity War. With so many MCU characters in Captain America: Civil War, as well as the film’s importance to the overall franchise, it would be interesting to see Deadpool & Wolverine revisit it.

Reynolds’ Deadpool and Jackman’s Wolverine could become part of Captain America: Civil War‘s major airport battle. There is a lot of fun to be had in seeing the two heroes go up against other popular MCU characters, and it would be quite something to see which of the two teams — Iron Man or Captain America’s — the two characters would choose to back in the conflict.

7 The Avengers

Released In 2012

2012’s The Avengers was responsible for changing superhero movies for good, bringing together six MCU heroes from other projects. As one of the most iconic MCU movies, if Deadpool & Wolverine will revisit the best moments of the franchise so far, then The Avengers has to make that list. There are a couple of fun scenes that could see Reynolds’ Deadpool and his brand of humor shine through.

The first one is the classic team shot in The Avengers. Deadpool could hilariously insert himself into the team for the moment through the use of archival footage. Another team scene that would be fun for the hero to crash, and Jackman’s Wolverine could also appear in, was one of The Avengers‘ post-credits scenes. Deadpool and Wolverine could show up for the team’s shawarma lunch, sitting down to relax with the heroes after their own adventures.

6 Avengers: Infinity War

Released In 2018

Another movie for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that Deadpool & Wolverine could revisit is Avengers: Infinity War. There are so many possible scenes that could see the two mutants being inserted into the background. For instance, Deadpool and Wolverine could appear in the middle of the Battle of Wakanda, fighting Thanos’ army of Outriders and perhaps a member of the Black Order or two, while the Avengers can be seen fighting on their side.

If Deadpool & Wolverine takes a different approach and has the characters meddle with MCU events and change them instead of just appearing in the background, then there is another candidate. Deadpool and Wolverine could make it so Star-Lord’s outburst on Titan does not happen, with Thanos being defeated, creating an alternate reality where Avengers: Endgame‘s events did not happen in the MCU.

5 The Incredible Hulk

Released In 2008

The Incredible Hulk is one of the MCU’s most underrated films. Deadpool & Wolverine revisiting the movie would be exciting, as that version of the Hulk has been absent from the MCU for far too long. While Mark Ruffalo has done a solid job as Smart Hulk in recent years, there has been a growing movement for Marvel to go back and bring out the character’s rage again, and Deadpool & Wolverine could do that.

As the Hulk is on a different path in the MCU, Deadpool & Wolverine could go to the past to find a true berserker Hulk. That way, the MCU could hit two birds with one stone. Deadpool and Wolverine could bring an angry Hulk to the big screen again and finally have Wolverine and the Hulk fight in live-action and full R-rated glory.

4 Captain America: The First Avenger

Released In 2011

Captain America: Civil War is not the only movie for Evans’ hero that Deadpool & Wolverine could revisit. While the star has said that it would take quite a bit to get him to return as Captain America due to being protective of the character and his ending, Evans did cameo in Free Guy, a movie that starred Ryan Reynolds and was directed by Shawn Levy, both of whom are behind Deadpool & Wolverine. That makes a cameo possible.

Captain America: The First Avenger would be perfect for the film due to Wolverine’s comic book history. Marvel could finally have Wolverine and Captain America team up during World War II, like they do in the comics, on the big screen. That could be the kind of epic story that could bring Evans back, and it would also not undo Captain America’s MCU ending.

3 Iron Man

Released In 2008

Iron Man
Release Date
May 2, 2008
Runtime
126 minutes

As the first movie in the MCU, if Deadpool & Wolverine sees Reynolds and Jackman’s characters revisiting the franchise’s greatest hits, 2008’s Iron Man is a must. Tony Stark was kidnapped and imprisoned in Afghanistan, and that could be where Deadpool and Wolverine come in. Knowing what happens to Iron Man, thanks to his TVA connections, Deadpool could decide to rescue the hero.

This could be a way to get an Iron Man variant back in the MCU. Recently, Robert Downey Jr. said he would be open to returning as Iron Man, saying, “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA.” While a new version of Iron Man might show up after Avengers: Secret Wars, with an MCU reboot rumored, Downey could return in Deadpool & Wolverine and remain as a Tony Stark variant until the Multiverse Saga is over.

2 Thor: Ragnarok

Released In 2017

Thor: Ragnarok is one of the best MCU movies, and as such, it would provide a fun adventure for Deadpool and Wolverine. The two mutants could find themselves on the planet Sakaar. Deadpool and Wolverine could then have to become gladiators, just like Thor and Hulk were in the MCU film, and fight their way off the planet. This would allow the MCU film to explore different cameos, perhaps adding characters fans would not expect.

While Deadpool & Wolverine will bring back many heroes and villains from Fox’s Marvel movies, some of them, and others, could come from the possible gladiator battles Deadpool and Wolverine would go through. This could perhaps be how the MCU introduces Beta Ray Bill, a character that was teased in Thor: Ragnarok but has yet to actually show up in the MCU, and a “horse” Thor fits the Deadpool movies.

1 Avengers: Endgame

Released In 2019

Finally, Deadpool & Wolverine would also have to revisit the biggest MCU movie to date — the almost $3 billion Avengers: Endgame. The movie was responsible for serving as the finale of the Infinity Saga and did so masterfully. Avengers: Endgame also laid out the possible plan for Deadpool & Wolverine, with the Avengers going back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones and, in doing so, revisiting multiple MCU movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s latest trailer featured the duo jumping through a magic portal similar to Doctor Strange’s. The MCU could go a step beyond with that idea and have Deadpool and Wolverine arrive through one of the hundreds of portals in Avengers: Endgame‘s final battle. The mutants could then trade blows with Thanos’ army, helping the Avengers defeat the Mad Titan in the MCU’s biggest battle.
